Unveiling Vision & Policy: Accelerating Laem Chabang Port's Transformation into a World-Class Hub for Excellence in Sustainable Logistics Services.

Laem Chabang Port, Thailand's premier gateway, drives over 60% of the nation's international trade. Managed by the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT), it is advancing infrastructure and integrating cutting-edge technology to enhance maritime capabilities and fuel the country's economic growth.

Lt. J.G. Yuthana Mokekhaw, Managing Director of Laem Chabang Port, stated that the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) envisions transforming the port into a world-class hub for excellence in sustainable logistics services. This vision is driven by three core policies:

1. Expanding Infrastructure – Phase 3 of Laem Chabang Port expansion will boost container capacity by 7 million TEUs annually, increasing from 11.1 million to 18.1 million TEUs in the future.
2. Green & Sustainable Innovation – Promoting clean energy and eco-friendly technology, including Shore Power Supply to reduce air and noise pollution from vessels.
3. Smart Port & AI Integration – Enhancing digital capabilities with Smart Port Solutions and AI to optimize efficiency and operations.

To strengthen its position as a regional maritime hub, Laem Chabang Port is fast-tracking Phase 3 expansion, adding space and capacity for 7 million more TEUs annually. The project will integrate automation technologies like Automated Stacking Cranes and real-time vessel traffic management for enhanced efficiency.

Enhancing Multimodal Transport, Laem Chabang Port is accelerating rail network expansion to connect with Lad Krabang distribution center, shifting cargo from road to rail for faster, cost-efficient logistics. This boosts national competitiveness while promoting Coastal Shipping for sustainable transport.

Laem Chabang Port’s development plan focuses on boosting logistics efficiency through AI and IoT integration for smarter cargo management. Investments in digital infrastructure, including Digital Twin Technology, will enhance operations while expanding capacity for specialized cargo, such as hazardous and refrigerated goods.

Laem Chabang Port currently handles over 8 million TEUs annually, with capacity set to reach 18 million TEUs upon Phase 3 completion. The expansion includes Ultra Large Container Ship berths with 16-18m depth, clean energy technology, and environmental impact reduction. Additionally, enhanced connectivity with EEC industrial zones will further streamline cargo distribution.

The development of Laem Chabang Port will play a key role in advancing Thailand’s logistics system, positioning the country as a central hub linking Asia with Europe and America. It will support the automotive and parts industries as a key Ro-Ro Hub and promote Seamless Logistics to enhance national supply chain efficiency.
